How to install:
- Quit System Preferences if it is running. If you are updating a previous version of TextExpander, disable it in the Preferences tab of the TextExpander preference pane before installing the new version.
- Find and mount the TextExpander disk image file (.dmg)
- If you're using Safari with "Open 'safe' files after downloading" turned ON in Safari Preferences, the TextExpander disk image file will mount automatically.
- If you're using Safari with "Open 'safe' files after downloading" turned OFF in Safari Preferences, you'll find the TextExpander .dmg file in your Downloads folder (under Leopard) or on your Desktop (under Tiger). Double-click it to mount the TextExpander disk image.
- If you are using another browser, you'll need to locate the TextExpander .dmg file. It may be in your Downloads folder (under Leopard), on your Desktop or in another location, depending on what is specified in your browser's preferences. Once you locate the .dmg file, double-click it to mount the TextExpander disk image.
- Click "Agree" to agree to the terms of use.
- Double-click on the TextExpander file icon. This is the recommended way to install or upgrade TextExpander. (See below for manual installation instructions.)
- Open System Preferences (under the Apple menu or go to
"/Applications/System Preferences.app" - Open the Universal Access pane and enable access for assistive devices.
- Open TextExpander's preference pane and start TextExpander by checking the Enable TextExpander checkbox (under the Preferences tab).
Manual installation
You can manually install TextExpander by copying TextExpander.prefPane to one of the following folders:
/Library/PreferencePanes/
/Users/your user directory/Library/PreferencePanes/
Please make sure the new version of TextExpander.prefPane replaces any previous version of TextExpander you might have installed. If you're installing TextExpander to a different location, or replacing a version of Textpander please remove the old TextExpander.prefPane or Textpander.prefPane files manually.
